HOSANAGARA : In a tragic incident, three people, including a supervisor, were killed when a mound of soil collapsed on them during road restoration work at the Hulikal Ghat in Hosanagara taluk on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred near the Sri Chandikamba Temple at one of the sharp hairpin curves of the ghat. According to police sources, the stretch was undergoing repairs due to frequent soil erosion and minor landslides in the area. While workers were engaged in the stabilization work, a large mass of earth suddenly caved in, trapping several laborers underneath.
While the deaths of three individuals have been confirmed, authorities fear that more workers might be trapped or injured under the debris. Local police from the Nagara Station rushed to the spot immediately after the mishap. A massive rescue operation is currently underway to clear the soil and locate any other survivors.
