SHIVAMOGGA: In a unique case of fraud, a man cheated a local jeweler by pretending to make an online payment and subsequently getting the shop owner’s bank account frozen. The victim has now approached the police for help.

The incident took place at Shah Ghavar Chand Peraji Jewelry shop in Gandhi Bazar. A customer identified as Ningappa M. Mudur visited the shop and selected a gold ring weighing 4.990 grams, valued at ₹75,500. He paid ₹500 in cash as an advance and transferred the remaining ₹75,000 to the owner Bhavik M. Jain’s bank account via PhonePe before leaving with the ring.

The fraud came to light the next day when Jain visited the bank to withdraw money and discovered that his account had been frozen. It was revealed that after buying the ring, Ningappa had filed a false complaint with the Cyber Crime cell, claiming the money was transferred to the jeweler’s account by mistake. Based on this false report, the bank locked the jeweler’s account. A case has been registered at the Kote Police Station, and investigations are underway.
