Bhadravathi youth gets 20 years rigorous imprisonment

SHIVAMOGGA: An Additional District and Sessions Court in Shivamogga has sentenced a 22-year-old youth to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2022.

The incident occurred in 2022 when the accused, a resident of Bhadravathi, sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl. Following the assault, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the Bhadravathi Rural Police Station.

The then ASP of Bhadravathi Sub-Division, Jeetendra Kumar Dayama (IPS), conducted a thorough investigation and submitted the chargesheet to the court.

During the trial at the Fast Track Special Court (FTSC-1) in Shivamogga, Public Prosecutor Shridhar argued the case on behalf of the state. After finding the accused guilty, Judge Ninganagouda B. Patil delivered the verdict on May 8, 2026. The court sentenced the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,50,000. Out of the fine amount, the court ordered that ₹2,25,000 be paid to the victim as compensation.
