SHIVAMOGGA: The monsoon arrived half a month ago, but Shivamogga district has not got enough rain. Hot weather continues in the region.
In the last 24 hours, Shivamogga, Shikaripura, and Soraba taluks got no rain at all. Bhadravathi got 0.40 mm, Tirthahalli 0.50 mm, Sagara 0.20 mm, and Hosanagara just 0.10 mm. The whole district got only 1.20 mm rain in a day.

The shortfall is huge. By June 16, the district should normally get 2,356.80 mm of rain. So far, it has received only 491.20 mm. Hosanagara and Tirthahalli, which usually get heavy rain, are hit hard. Hosanagara got 117 mm against its normal 661 mm. Tirthahalli got just 78.60 mm against its normal 564.80 mm.
Other taluks also show a big gap. Sagara got 146.10 mm against its normal 490.90 mm, Shivamogga got 48.60 mm against its normal 111.60 mm, Soraba got 45.90 mm against its normal 275.50 mm, Shikaripura got 37.60 mm against its normal 145.80 mm, and Bhadravathi got 17.40 mm against its normal 107.20 mm. Farmers in the district are worried about the weak monsoon.
