Addressing a press conference at Patrika Bhavan, Suresh Babu, President of Peoples for Civil Rights, urged the district administration and Shivamogga City Corporation to strictly enforce official protocol. He insisted that stage access during the sacred ‘Banni Mudiyuva’ ceremony be restricted solely to elected representatives—including MPs, Ministers, MLAs, and chairpersons of boards and corporations—along with designated officials and officiating priests.

Babu alleged that over the past few years, non-elected political leaders and former corporators have been using the elevated platform for political muscle-flexing. This, he noted, hinders sacred religious procedures and causes hardship to attendees, especially women, children, and senior citizens. He emphasized that traditional rituals originating from the royal era, such as ‘Katti Puja’, along with folk arts, must proceed without political interference.
Highlighting that representations submitted over the last three to four years yielded no action from the corporation, the organization has now formally submitted memorandums to both the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police. Babu warned that if authorities fail to preserve the sanctity and dignity of the religious event, a legal struggle will be initiated.
Organization members including Niranjan Murthy, Yashwanth, M. Gurukiran, S. Bharath, Girish, M.C. Abhijith, Raju, and Subramanya were present at the press conference.
