Shivamogga: The Shivamogga district administration has issued an immediate order banning all types of vehicular movement on Hulikal Ghat (Balebari Ghat), which connects Thirthahalli and Kundapura on State Highway-52. This precautionary measure follows a recent landslide incident in the ghat section.
The Incident: During the ongoing road widening and retaining wall construction work on Thursday, a fresh landslide occurred. A portion of the earth, approximately 5 feet wide, caved in beneath a 12-meter-high concrete road section. Authorities reported visible cracks on the road surface, making it extremely hazardous for commuters.
Alternate Routes for Commuters: To ensure public safety, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek V. has urged travelers to use the following alternate routes until repair work is completed:
- From Thirthahalli to Kundapura: Route: Thirthahalli – Rave – Kanugodu – Nagara – Kollur – Kundapura.
- Via Yaduru-Mastikatte: Route: Thirthahalli – Yaduru – Mastikatte – Kanugodu – Nagara – Kollur – Kundapura.
- For Heavy Vehicles from Shivamogga/Sagara: Route: Shivamogga – Honnavar National Highway – Honnavar – Bhatkal – Byndoor – Kundapura.
The district administration has requested the public to cooperate with these changes to ensure safety during the restoration process.
