Shivamogga: Employees of the Shivamogga City Corporation, including sanitation workers, have launched an indefinite strike starting today, July 8, 2025. This action, led by the Shivamogga City Corporation Employees’ Association, will involve various staff members such as loaders, drivers, gardeners, and drainage cleaners, causing significant disruption to city services, especially cleanliness and public-facing operations.
The strike aims to pressure the authorities to meet several key demands. These include extending benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to municipal employees, similar to those received by government staff, and implementing KGID (Karnataka Government Insurance Department) and GPF (General Provident Fund) schemes for them. Additionally, the employees are calling for amendments to the Cadre and Recruitment Rules and the implementation of comprehensive health schemes.

This indefinite strike is expected to severely impact daily public services. Residents visiting the City Corporation for various tasks will likely face inconveniences, returning empty-handed. Furthermore, the absence of sanitation workers will directly affect the city’s cleanliness, potentially leading to significant accumulation of waste and hygiene issues across Shivamogga.
