Former MLA Demands Investigation into Alleged Irregularities in SUDA

SHIVAMOGGA: Former MLA and JDS State Vice President K.B. Prasanna Kumar has demanded a high-level probe into alleged financial irregularities within the Shimoga Urban Development Authority (SUDA). Addressing a press conference, he accused the authority of deviating from its goal of providing housing for the poor.

Prasanna Kumar stated that government bodies like KHB and SUDA, meant to provide sites and houses to the homeless, have turned into real estate businesses. He pointed out that contractors Gurusai and Basavaraj have already filed a complaint with the Lokayukta regarding 13 recent projects where irregularities allegedly occurred. He further claimed that certain SUDA officials played a key role in these illegalities.

Citing specific examples, the former MLA alleged that at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Layout, payment was made for 1,441 meters of park work despite only 518 meters being completed. He also alleged corruption in projects at Uragadur and during the renovation of the SUDA office. Claiming that hundreds of crores of rupees have been misused through substandard and unscientific works, he urged the new District Collector to initiate an immediate investigation.
